By the time a student gets to year 10, they are well grown and have many of the physical attributes of adulthood. However if you watch them in a classroom or even school setting it is clear from their behaviour that they are still children. They talk in class, play with phones and ipods, wrestle etc. They often sit on the ground - something that has carried over from kindergarten.
Yet when responding to questions and being focused on the task you can see the maturity and understanding that is developing. It is important to understand the many viewpoints so that the response is the best for the student, drawing them on rather than either confirming that they are a child or being too far ahead and them failing to follow.
